Nose Job

A nose job or Nose plastic surgery, also known as Rhinoplasty Surgery, is a very common plastic surgery that is performed by plastic surgeons on patients who wish to alter the shape of their noses for cosmetic purposes to meet a more acceptable standard of beauty, and/or to alter their noses for functional purposes to enhance breathing.

The nose is a focal feature in the face and its size and shape will play a major role in a person’s aesthetics. If you have breathing problems or if you are uncomfortable with your nose shape and size and it is making you feel self conscious, then nose plastic surgery will help your image and improve your self esteem. Most cosmetic nose plastic surgeries intend to reduce the size of the nose and reduce the hump bone, thus majorly improving the profile.

Some Rhinoplasty surgeries will improve the shape of the nose tip, the opening of the nostrils, or the angle which the nose makes with the upper lip or any combination of the above based on each individual case. Some nose plastic surgeries are reconstructive surgeries which need to be performed after an accident or a bad previous nose plastic surgery, and consequently some nose surgeries will need to increase the size of the nose instead of decreasing it!

Nose shapes often reflect family traits as well as ethnic backgrounds. It is therefore vital for a person to be confident of the change he/she is about to undertake before they literally go under the knife. In Hollywood, nose plastic surgery is a fad; every year, hundreds of nose Rhinoplasty surgeries are performed on Hollywood actors and actresses alone. The most notorious would be Michael Jackson’s too tiny nose, but his sister for example the famous singer Janet Jackson had a successful nose job which made her nose and nostrils narrower and much more feminine and fitting to her sweet face. Did you know that the legendary Marilyn Monroe also had had nose plastic surgery before she appeared on the screen?

Before going through nose surgery, your goal and expectations must be clear. Remember that there is no such thing as a standard perfect nose but you must see what best suits your face. You have to discuss with your doctor the expected results in nose alterations that will flatter your features and size of your face. Not everybody can have Nicole Kidman’s nose, every face has a specific structure. That is why it is important to have a comfortable communication with your plastic surgeon.

Your plastic surgeon will examine your face, check your skin and nose, take some pictures and listen to your expectations and discuss with you the possibilities and agree on the desired goal. Your medical history, blood samples, allergy tests will be required and if all is well, a date for the surgery will be set and your doctor will explain to you the nose plastic surgery procedures and how to best prepare for the surgery.
